Hi and welcome to WealthSpade. My name is Lahiru, and this is where I share tips on making money, saving money and retirement planning. Just like many of you, I got a mortgage, car loan and other loans so “Money” likes to play a big role in my life. However, being smart about expenses and debt is easier than you may realize. Of course you need some discipline but hey, we can train our brain what to do.

So who is this “Lahiru” guy? Glad you asked. I’m a regular Joe with a knack for numbers. I graduated in 2004 (this gives away my age, eh?) in Management Information Systems. Then in 2010 with an MBA. I live in Calgary, Alberta with my wife although I’m originally from Colombo, Sri Lanka. I work as a Solutions Developer so WordPress, SEO, digital marketing and web design is a second language to me. Feel free to hire me for your web/blog projects. I’ve also done quite a bit of accounting so I know my numbers. My wife likes to call me “The Accountant” for that reason. I know, she’s funny like that.

My parents taught me budgeting from an early age. In fact, my mom forced me to budget. This helped me as an adult to manage my finances well. I saved up to pay for my MBA, which was quite a big chunk of my savings. However I’m glad there are no student loans on top of my other commitments.

Although I’m not some kind of a ‘money guru’, budgeting, saving and investing that I’ve been doing has been working quite well. This includes earning some extra money, saving for vacations, paying off loans and saving for retirement. I’m sharing these tips on this blog. Hopefully it will encourage you to make some good financial decisions too, and keep me on track with my own budget as well. So let’s take this journey together!
